LEED helps Glenstone Museum sustain its unique visitor experience

The Glenstone Museum, located in Potomac, Maryland, “seamlessly integrates art, architecture and nature into a serene and contemplative environment.” Thoughtfully designed indoor and outdoor spaces make it a destination for visitors seeking creative social media content, as well as for people looking to connect and appreciate the power of art in its many forms.

With winding paths, streams, meadows, forests and outdoor sculptures throughout the grounds, Glenstone’s focus on nature and sustainability is an essential part of its artistic design and mission—but so is bringing people there. The museum’s core values state, “Art is essential to life. Meaningful encounters begin with direct engagement.” That changed in 2020, when most of the world went into lockdown due to COVID-19. Connecting people is part of the Glenstone experience, so the team had to rethink how the space could better support health while still focusing on connections.
